I was asked to write a blog post this summer about a Psalm that I felt I was living in. I thought I'd post it on here too. Here's what I came up with: “Have mercy on me, O God, according to your steadfast love; according to your abundant mercy blot out my transgressions. Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin! For I KNOW my transgressions and my sin is ever before me.”- Psalm 51:1-3 This summer has been rough in some ways. Not in every way of course. I have spent the Read More
Frayed Shoes and Fresh Starts
There is something about the first day of school that makes me so giddy. I just love fresh starts. I think that's what it is. Newly sharpened pencils and fresh crayons. All of your attempts at organization get another chance. Something that feels dead gets resuscitated. Atleast that's how it feels for me. There was a little wrench thrown into my "fresh start" this year, however. When we went out to buy NEW things for a NEW school year, my ten-year-old refused to participate. Her Read More
I hate blogging
I really don’t like writing. There I said it. It’s not that I don’t like writing per se…maybe it’s the pressure I feel surrounding writing that I don’t like. I start to feel dread rising up from the tips of my toes through my stomach whenever I think of the writing deadlines I have for the blogs I contribute to. What can I possibly say that hasn’t been said before? I have no new insights, nothing that would make anyone think. I don’t have a profound bone in my body. All I know is I’m a Read More
Icelandic Summer
Our Icelandic summer is officially over. Right now our plane is taxiing down the runway, getting ready to take off. The fresh rain droplets on my window are congregated in three straight rows and I keep staring at them, trying to figure out how that’s even possible. They look different…plumper, maybe. Perfectly round circles all synchronized with shading on their right sides. Everything in Iceland seems more magical. How would I describe our summer? Amazing. Full of awesome moments, awful Read More
Iceland: Our Summer of Wedded Bliss
I feel like blogging tonight. That doesn't happen often...perhaps it's this new book I'm reading by Joni Earckson Tada that's inspiring me to write. For those of you who don't know, we're spending the summer in Iceland. We've been here for a month, and will leave in three weeks. I actually made a "VLOG" announcing the news, but never took the time to actually post it! Oh, the shame... Being here in Iceland the past month has been pretty wild. In the first three weeks, I taught at the Read More
Your Church Doesn’t Need You
Today finds me sitting on a lava rock in the middle of the North Atlantic Ocean. More specifically, in Reykjavik, Iceland. But, considering in most directions I look I am surrounded by lava fields, this volcanic island sure feels like a lava rock. Me, my husband, and our four kids have been living here for almost two months, which you might find strange since my husband is the main pastor back at Pillar Church in Northern Virginia. What are we doing here? Funny you should ask. Well, Read More
Our Weekend in Pictures
Just spent the weekend with an amazing church having an awesome retreat. It was all of my favorite things: Sharing God's Word, attending sessions (taught by my hubby!), praise and worship, being in the great outdoors...all surrounded by Christian community. So thankful our kids were allowed to tag along for this memorable weekend...they are still talking about it. (I tried to post this back in early June but it never worked! I tend to "back-post" for memory sake...Thanks for bearing with Read More
Meet Gelisa
Those of you who know me know that I love a good story. I love reading stories, telling stories...but most of all, discovering God stories...you know...stories that make you stand in awe of God's personal involvement and power. Recently I asked Jesus to send me some God stories that I could document and share on this blog. I'm so thankful that God brought Gelisa to our church three years ago. It's really quite the story, and I'm thankful that she's willing to share it. So, make sure you're Read More
Guest Blog (Hannah C. Hall): Balancing Writing and Family
Today I want to welcome to the blog Hannah C. Hall. Hannah is a writer, blogger, and mommy to four. I asked her to tell us how she balances her writing with her family partly because I'm curious how this works...AND I like to use my blog to introduce you to great people. Thanks for sharing your insights, Hannah! A few years ago, while visiting some family, we adults made a desperate decision; someone was going to get strangled if we didn’t get out of that house STAT.We ended up at Read More
The Mother’s Day Gift I Didn’t Ask For
Today is Mother’s Day and I woke up feeling like I’d been hit by a truck. After using all my energy to sit up, I asked Darcy if she’d be willing to bring me cereal in bed because it was--after all--Mother’s Day. “Mother’s DAY?!” She had apparently forgotten. I reminded her that she had made me a card earlier in the week that was waiting—unopened—on my dresser. Her panicking subsided, and she brought me Rice Chex and a card. We made it to church and I settled into the Kindergarten-2nd grade Read More
