Thoughts From A Hyundai Dealership

January 24, 2018Annie

I’m sitting here at Malloy Hyndai getting our car fixed and I’m struck by how much blue there is in this room. Blue vases, blue plates, and blue decor lining the sun drenched windows. Blue walls. Blue sky outside. My phone beeps and there is a text from my Dad. Grandma was taken by ambulence to the hospital this morning and is now in the ER. After running some tests, it becomes clear that she has congestive heart failure. An elderly woman walks by where I’m sitting, straining to see out Read More

Garman Family Year in Review 2017

January 1, 2018Annie

How can you sum up a year? My husband says that if people want to know about our year, they can just look at our Facebook or Instagram pictures. This is true... But, pictures can't always capture the moment.  They can't capture the moment when you are cooking dinner and your oldest daughter is asking you an amazing question about monasticism that makes the teacher in you do a happy dance...while your second oldest daughter is making a smoothie and whispering for you to guess the secret Read More

When You Lose Heart

December 8, 2017Annie

Saturday was incredibly rough. I still don't even understand it all, but it was a big pot of pride and selfishness, mixed with exhaustion, and seasoned with despair.  It seemed a knot too complex to ever unravel. I felt like throwing in the towel of ministry because of what a loser I was. Why even try? Why even try to minister to others when I can't even help myself? I'm not sure if you've ever been to the bottom of the pit, but I can assure you that it's dark and confusing and oppressive. Read More

MAKING DISCIPLES

November 13, 2017Annie

I'm not always sure what to blog about that would be beneficial, but when my husband did this course on Making Disciples, I thought it was worth sharing. As Christians, we can do a lot of things with our time, but making disciples should be our primary ministry focus! Making disciples who, in turn, make disciples! Whether you're a Christian who wants to focus more on discipleship, or a nonbeliever who wants to see what the mission of every Christian is, you would benefit from listening to this Read More

Serving Without Fear

May 31, 2017Annie

Those of you who write know how discouraging it can be.  It's lonely and confusing to spend time working on something you're not convinced is valuable. I've explained it to Colby like this: Imagine you spend blood, sweat, and tears making a prop for a show, but you're not sure if the prop will ever get used. In fact, you're convinced it's been hung in the back hallway by the storage closet. Colby likes to remind me that I have no business wondering how the prop will be used. I should just do my Read More

Interview with Lisa Clymer Johnson: Part 4

April 28, 2017Annie

Annie: How are you managing to stay afloat each day given the circumstances? Lisa: The only way, I stay afloat each day is through the prayers of others. I’m not sure I could have made it this far without others telling me that they pray for Xavier and me daily! Everyday holds new struggles and craziness, but everyday, I feel like others are praying for me and I got this! My husband and I also have a great system right now that works. We both share responsibilities for the caring, Read More

Interview with Lisa Clymer Johnson: Part 3

April 25, 2017Annie

Annie: Has forgiveness been an issue at all in this trial? Lisa: Forgiveness, has never really been an issue for us. We know and believe in our hearts that this was purely an accident. It has always been our hearts desire to let the kids involved and families know that we love them, we know they are hurting and we hold no angry or ill feelings towards any of them. We can’t go back and change time, but we can show God’s love to others and not harbor anger or bitterness to Read More

Interview with Lisa Clymer Johnson: Part 2

April 22, 2017Annie

Annie: Tell us about a specific way God spoke to you in the eye of this storm: Lisa: It was a Sunday a week after the accident. Ross and my younger boys were at church and I was the one to stay with Xavier at the hospital. We had just experienced the worst week of our entire lives. His Internal Cranium Pressure numbers that measure the swelling in the brain were lowering which was a good sign. So on this particular Sunday, I walked into that hospital feeling the presence of God with me and Read More

Interview with Lisa Clymer Johnson: Part 1

April 19, 2017Annie

I want to welcome someone really special to the blog today. Back in the 1990's, God brought Ross and Lisa Johnson to our church to serve as youth leaders. Lisa loved on me and therefore had a big impact on me as I navigated adolescence. What I remember most about Lisa from those years is her SMILE.  She was always smiling. Always. Two years ago, Lisa and her family experienced trauma that no one was expecting. I've been following their story from a distance, but recently felt compelled to Read More
