I've come to the conclusion that I don't blog enough to be a blogger. Thankfully, I know a lot of wise, talented writers who have agreed to guest blog for me. Our first guest blogger of 2016 is Trisha Dickinson. Trisha and I met in college because our boyfriends (Colby and Josh) were childhood friends. When Trisha and her husband moved to Senegal as missionaries, I began to follow their blog. Reading about their lives consistently challenges me to follow Christ with more abandon. Today I Read More
When You Forget the Most Important Thing
Well, it happened. I’ve heard of it happening to others, but never imagined it would happen to me. Everything was packed and ready for our missions trip to Iceland. I was taking a team from our church to Reykjavik to run an English camp for Icelandic children. I had the lesson plans, construction paper, multi-leveled books, writing paper, stickers, small prizes, and had even remembered to bring extra staples in case we ran out. My list had all been checked off and I was feeling pretty proud Read More

The True Adventure
On September 1st, 2000, Colby asked me if there was any chance we would ever be more than friends. I told him absolutely not. I was happy to be neighbors for the rest of my life, but getting into a serious relationship was out of the question. I wasn't ready to start dating him because I feared that would lead to marriage, and marriage... would lead to boring lives that consisted of work and PBS television every evening. I told Colby early that late summer evening that getting into a Read More
Germany or Bust!
We just got back from a really refreshing and encouraging conference in Germany. We took a few days after the conference to see Frankfurt and couldn't get over how little English people knew, especially compared to our beloved Icelanders. I did charades all week trying to communicate what I needed and still was not successful. Colby and I both felt like we were in Middle Pennsylvania the whole week because the food was all white and brown. We had baked macaroni Read More

It wasn’t smooth and it SURE wasn’t pretty…
…But we are back in Iceland with VISAs. Here’s a recap of what we had to go through in the last 3 days: 1. 1. Three hour train ride from Jyvaskyla to the capital: Helsinki, Finland. Colby’s backpack broke. Had to shop for another one in the Helsinki mall and transfer everything into it. 2. 2. Hellsinki Airport. Got into the slowest line at Czech Airlines. Finally it is our turn at the check-in counter. We find out we are only allowed to check 80 kilos and we are required to check our Read More
So…we are in Finland.
The VISAS never came, and our second 90 day period on our passports is up. We don’t know how long we’ll be here…we don’t know much except that we are together and in God’s hands. If you are not on our prayer team and would like to get monthly updates or weekly updates, just let us know. We flew into Helsinki, Finland and then drove 3 ½ hours north to a college town called Jyvaskyla. This place is strikingly similar to where I grew up: marshes, lakes, and HUNDREDS of trails for walking and Read More
